Privacy for schools

Last updated: 2026-10-28

This page is for teachers, school leaders and school IT staff who want to check Simulic before using it with a class. It summarises how the Service handles students' data. The Privacy Policy is the full and binding text; where this page and the policy differ, the policy applies.

In short

  • Students need no account. They open a simulation from a link, QR code or embed that their teacher shares. They never sign up and never sign in.
  • Students give no email address. We never collect student email addresses, also not from teachers, and we never email students.
  • No cookies, no tracking, no advertising on class links. A class link sets no cookie, loads no analytics and stores no IP address.
  • Only teachers have accounts, and accounts are for adults (18+).

How students use Simulic

  • The teacher opens a simulation on simulic.com and chooses Use with my class. This makes a class link and a QR code, with the simulation, language and starting settings the teacher picked.
  • Students open that link on any device with a modern browser. It also works inside Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and learning platforms that can embed a web page.
  • The simulation pages on simulic.com itself ask visitors to sign in, and accounts are only for adults. Students under 18 should always use their teacher's class link.
  • The teacher can turn a link off at any time; students then can no longer open it.

What is stored about students

  • By default, only counts. For each link we keep how many times it was opened, per day. This number is shown to the teacher who made the link and cannot be traced back to any person.
  • If the teacher adds questions (up to five per link), a student who opens the link can type a nickname and an answer to each question. We store the nickname, the answers and the time, against that link. Only the teacher who owns the link can see them. The teacher can delete them at any time; they are deleted automatically after 12 months, and at once if the link or the teacher's account is deleted.
  • Ask students for a first name or a nickname, never a full name or other personal details, and set questions that do not ask for personal information.
  • Simulations cannot collect data. They run in a browser sandbox that cannot contact the network. What a student does inside a simulation is not recorded.

How this relates to student privacy laws

We designed class links so that a school does not need to give us student personal data. The notes below explain how the Service works in the terms these laws use; they are not legal advice, and your school remains responsible for its own decisions.

  • COPPA (United States). Children do not register and are not asked for an email address, a name or any other contact detail. The only text a student can enter is a nickname and answers to their teacher's questions, and only when the teacher has added questions.
  • FERPA (United States). Class answers are used only to show them to the teacher who owns the link. We do not sell them, use them for advertising, share them with other teachers or use them to train AI models. The teacher can export or delete them at any time.
  • GDPR and UK GDPR (Europe). We collect only what each feature needs: nothing about students by default, and a nickname and answers when a teacher adds questions. Data is stored in the United States; transfers rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses or on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The Privacy Policy lists every provider and how long each kind of data is kept.

For school IT

If your network filters websites, allow these domains:

DomainWhat it serves
simulic.comThe website, teachers' accounts, and class links (/p/…) and embeds (/e/…)
run.simulic.comThe simulations of the Simulic library
simulic-usercontent.pages.devSimulations that teachers made themselves with AI

Simulations run in the browser. Nothing needs to be installed, and students need no plugin or app.
